Israel's State Comptroller Yosef
Shapira is set to publish the Harpaz Report into the fabrication of a document that was set to affect the election of the country's army chief.
The document was mainly written by former State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss and was amended by Shapira more than two years later.
The report deals with a forged document, written by a former Israel Defense Forces (IDF) officer, Boaz Harpaz, which detailed false plans among Defence Minister Ehud Barak's camp to launch a smear campaign against then-Chief-of-Staff Major-General (Res.) Gabi Ashkenazi.
Ashkenazi and Barak quarrelled over General Yoav Galant. Barak wanted to name Galant as Ashkenazi’s successor. But Ashkenazi preferred that General Gadi Eizenkot replace him as IDF Chief of Staff.
The report is expected to shed light into the complex relationship between the top defence officials and examine issues such as the chief-of-staff' appointment process and information confidentiality.
