Youth groups with ties to Kuwait's opposition parties stage a mass demonstration to pressure the government into retracting its single vote decree and dissolving the newly elected parliament.
The protesters argue the parliament, which was elected thanks to an amended voting law, is illegitimate. The amendment reduced the number of candidates a voter could select from four to one which, critics say, allowed the government to manipulate the ballot.
With the opposition having boycotted the December 1 elections, the parliament fell into the hands of a Shiite minority, which succeeded in doubling its number of parliament seat.
Several opposition rallies have been held to challenge the chamber's authority, bringing the country to the brink of political gridlock once more.
