Leaders attend swearing in of Ghanaian president

John Dramani Mahama was a candidate in the December 7, 2012 elections representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC). At the time John Dramani Mahama was serving as the country's president, having replaced Prof. John Evans Attah-Mills, Ghana's third democratically elected president, who passed away after a battle with throat cancer in July 2012.
The list of high officials and heads of state attending the inauguration includes Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan, president Blasie Compaore of Burkina Faso and president Alassane Ouattara of Cote d’Ivoire. The African Union (AU) Chairman, president Thomas Boni Yayi is also expected to be present at the event.
The ceremony, scheduled to take place in front of an audience of 50,000, is to be broadcast on giant screens mounted in several locations in the capital, such as the Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, the Liberty Park at Dansoman, the Trade Fair Site and Legon/Madina among other.
