Malala Yousafzai, a 15-year-old Pakistani activist who was shot in the head by the Taliban returns to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital for reconstructive cranial surgery. 


Malala was discharged from the hospital on January 4 after she "has continued to make great progress in her treatment," as Medical director Dr Dave Rosser said. 


"Following discussions with Malala and her medical team, we decided that she would benefit from being at home with her parents and two brothers," the doctor added. 

Malala was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman for campaigning for girls' education and promoting her allegedly 'secularist' views online.

According to doctors, the bullet grazed the teenager's brain when it struck her above her left eye in the incident that took place on October 9, 2012 in the Swat Valley, near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. 


Just a few months after Malala was transported to the UK for a treatment, her father Ziaududdin Yousafzai was given a job at the Consulate of Pakistan in Birmingham in early January.
