The Presidential Inauguration Parade takes place to honor President Barack Obama, who will be sworn into his second term in office, and newly appointed Vice President Joe Biden.
The traditional event, which is open to public and televised so that millions Americans can participate in the special day, includes a procession of ceremonial military regiments, citizens' groups, marching bands, and floats.
This's years inauguration festivities will be held under the theme "Faith in America’s Future" to commemorate the United States’ perseverance and unity, marking the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and the placement of the Statue of Freedom atop the Capitol Dome in 1863.
Along with the parade, a week of events around the Presidential Inauguration includes the Presidential Swearing-in Ceremony, Inaugural Address, Inaugural Balls and Inaugural National Prayer Service.
