Maltese Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi is to meet German chancellor Angela Merkel two days after the Maltese parliament was dissolved, which marked the start of the election campaign.


According to a Chancellery Spokesman Steffen Seibert , Merkel will host Gonzi for a working lunch at her office to discuss "European affairs".


Items on the agenda are said to include the resumption of negotiations on the EU's financial framework for 2014-2021, and the succession for Luxembourg PM Jean-Claude Juncker as head of the eurozone.


The two leaders are set to meet two days after Merkel's meeting with Greek PM Antonis Samaras over recent economic reforms in the country.
