British Gas director may step down

According to reports, the managing director had a disagreement with Sam Laidlaw, chief executive of
Centrica - British Gas' parent company - over a new strategy review.
It is thought Bentley opposed Laidlaw's emphasis on finding new ways to promote growth amid creeping regulation.
Seven years after joining Centrica as finance director, Bentley was transferred over to British Gas as managing director in 2007. The retail
division provides power and electricity to 12 million homes across the UK and
employs 31,000 people.
Before his arrival, British Gas had developed a poor reputation for customer services and was recovering from a messy new billing system. The company's improved image is much attributed to Bentley's work.
His departure is not expected to lead to dramatic executive changes. A successor has not yet been named.
