The Oscars ceremony is to pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of James Bond films.
"We are very happy to include a special sequence on our show saluting the Bond films on their 50th birthday," said the producers of this year's Oscars show, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who described the spy movies as "the longest-running motion picture franchise in history, and a beloved global phenomenon".
The 23rd and the latest movie in the series, Skyfall, was the first Bond film to cross the $1 billion mark globally, which makes it the most successful Bond film so far. It was directed by Sam Mendes and stars Daniel Craig in his third outing as Bond.
The inclusion of James Bond at the Academy Awards show is likely to trigger speculations that Skyfall will feature in the nominations, which this year will be revealed earlier that usual.
