Glam-rock legend David Bowie releases The Next Day, his first album in 10 years. Fans of the reclusive singer have already had the opportunity to listen to a track launched on Bowie's 66th birthday on January 8, 2013.

The single Where are we now? is released on iTunes in 119 countries. The song is accompanied by a video, which was posted on the artist's website, relaunched for the occasion.

The album, written by Bowie in New York and produced by his long-time collaborator, Tony Visconti, is released by Iso/Columbia record company.

The singer's latest performance was held in 2006. Since then the artist has spent many years away from the limelight and in 2012 has notoriously turned down an invitation to play at the London Olympics opening ceremony.

"Throwing shadows and avoiding the industry treadmill is very David Bowie despite his extraordinary track record that includes album sales in excess of 130m, not to mention his massive contributions in the area of art, fashion, style, sexual exploration and social commentary," record company Colombia said of the artist ahead of the launch of his album.
