Air France-KLM suspends its Amsterdam-Tehran service, leaving Germany's Lufthansa as the sole Western-based carrier to provide flights to Tehran.


KLM spokesman Joost Ruempol said that the decision to end the Amsterdam-Tehran route was motivated by economic, not political reasons.


While Lufthansa will continue flights to Tehran five times a week, its subsidiary, Austrian Airlines, has also halted flights to Iran due to a lack of demand.


It had earlier reduced the number of flights to Iran from four to three, before deciding to abandon the service all together.
