France is set to continue with the deployment of military forces in Mali.
According to the French Defence Ministry, the number of troops will be gradually increased from 800 to 2,500 soldiers backed by armored vehicles.
After the Mali government appealed to France following the actions of rebel Islamist insurgents in early January 2013, French President Francoise Hollande launched an attack that prompted the advancement of a UN-approved plan for military operations against the rebel insurgents.
The French forces are to work alongside the UN-backed soldiers of several West African states. Additionally, they will contribute to training programs with the aim of strengthening the Malian army.
