North Korea does not go ahead with its plans to re-open its embassy in Canberra. Australia barred Pyongyang from the move on March 7 following the state's recent nuclear threats.
North Korea launched its third nuclear test in February and threatened to stage further tests and even nuclear attacks if the US does not agree to hold diplomatic talks.
"The proposal to reopen a North Korean Embassy in Canberra is not currently progressing," an Australian foreign ministry spokeswoman said.
"It is in abeyance until further notice while we work in the United Nations Security Council on the response to North Korea's recent nuclear activity," she added.
The East Asian country closed its embassy in Canberra in 2008, citing financial difficulties as reason.
