Italian marines to be tried in India for murder

Italian marines Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone, who are accused of killing two fisherman off the coast of India, are to be tried in New Delhi.
Italy wanted the marines to face a trial in their homeland arguing the shootings took place in international waters and the case should thereby be handled in Italy. New Delhi, however, argued that the killings happened on an Indian boat and within India's territorial waters.
India's Supreme Court decided on the dispute on January 17, when it ruled that the case will be handled in a special court set up by the central Indian government in consultation with the chief justice.
Latore and Girone were part of a military security team when they opened fire on a fishing boat they allegedly mistook for a pirate craft.
