Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic and Kosovo leader Atifete Jahjaga meet for the first time in a bid to resolve border disputes under EU auspices.
"We agreed to meet for an intensive dialogue in February, in which we hope to make significant progress on issues we have identified," said EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton following the fourth round of reconciliation talks between Serbian Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi and his Kosovan counterpart Ivica Dačić in January.
The news about the first round of presidential talks came with reports that western diplomats hope the agreement on normalization of relations between Belgrade and Priština will be reached this spring.
The dialogue between the two neighbors was renewed in October 2012 and has since seen a significant progress. According to Ashton, during the January round of negotiations Dačić and Thaçi "came to a provisional understanding on the collection of customs duties, levies and VAT."
