Greek anti-bailout leader visits IMF HQ
|
|
Alexis Tsipras is first visiting Washington where among other duties, such as a speech at Brookings Institute and a meeting in State Department, he meets with the First Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, David Lipton.
After the meeting he is heading rot New York where he is meeting with Nobelists Joseph Stiglitz and Paul Grugman and is giving a speech Columbia University.
Mr. Tsipras is also expected to meet with leaders of the Greek American Community as well as with Greek Orthodox Archbishop Demetrios.
This visit follows the one Mr. Tsipras had in Berlin later in January, where he met with German pro-bailout Finance Minister Schaeuble. Some analysts consider these movements as a softening of Tsipras stance towards bailout, while his party officially states that their purpose is to present directly their plans to Greece's lenders.
