The European Commission is set to decide whether enough progress
has been made in Serbia's reforms to issue a date for the
start of accession talks, according to Serbian Trade Minister Rasim Ljajić.
If the Commission will conclude that more progress needs to be done, it may suspend Serbia's aspirations to start accession talks for a significant amount of time.
"If our country does not get a date for the beginning of the EU accession negotiations by June, we will have to wait a year and half for a new date," the minister said on January 20.

The minister stressed that the government was doing everything in its power to start the EU accession negotiations this year.
Before accession talks begin, the country still has to prove it is capable of dealing with its main challenges, which include the difficult economic situation,
negotiations with Priština and fighting crime and corruption.
