French President Hollande is scheduled to travel to Tahiti, the largest island in the Windward group of French Polynesia.
The visit comes as the French Polynesian President, Oscar Temaru, continues to press to see the territory re-inscribed on the UN decolonisation list.
The announcement was made by the French overseas territories minister Victorin Lurel, at the end of his visit to Tahiti and Manihi.

The last French president to visit Tahiti was Jacques Chirac, in 2003. Tahiti was part of the Kingdom of Tahiti before being annexed by France in 1880.
