French President François Hollande may visit Armenia on the day the country commemorates the killing of Armenians on the territory of present day Turkey by the Ottoman government between 1915–1923, known as the Armenian genocide.
The invitation to visit the country was extended to the French president by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in November 2012.
According to sources, the French president's visit is seen as the government's bid to issue a "strong genocide message" to the Armenian community living in France before local elections in 2014.
