Samsung invests $1.7 bn in China's Kunshan plant

South Korean electronics giant Samsung invests $1.7 billion into expanding the Kunshan plant west of Shanghai.
The investment will be used to build workshops, buy equipment and establish research institutes operated by Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co. to support a chip carrier related project.
The move comes as part of Samsung's bid to diversify its clients and exert greater control over its network, which includes 250 supply factories in China.
