Top Gun, which was originally released in 1986, is set to appear again at cinemas in the US only in a new format: 3D.


The film focuses on a group of students, led by Tom Cruise's hot-headed pilot Maverickat an elite military flying school, with rivalries and romance at its centre.


The 80s classic, directed by Tony Scott, made over $350 million worldwide and turned Cruise into a household name.


It also stars Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, Tom Skerritt, Tim Robbins and Kelly McGillis.
