Italy's airline Air Italy and sister carrier Meridiana Fly merge after they had their full air operator certificates revoked in mid-January by the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) due to financial difficulties. 

Both carriers now have temporary air operator certificates, which will expire in one year. 

The CEO of Air Italy Giuseppe Gentile will be replaced by Roberto Scaramella.
