Australia's parliament is dissolved, ahead of the September 14 general elections. 


The poll date was announced by Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard late January, who said that setting the date early would give "shape and order to the year", allowing businesses and investors to prepare their moves in advance.


According to early polls, Gillard's Labor minority government is likely to suffer a defeat the next time Australians cast their vote.
