Court establishes damages in case of Nigerian farmer v Shell
|
|
The Hague Civil Court establishes the level of damages after ordering a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell, Shell Nigeria, to compensate a Nigerian farmer.
On January 30, Dutch judges ruled Shell Nigeria breached its duty of care by failing to prevent saboteurs from opening an oil pipe.
During the hearing, however, all the other claims against Shell by Nigerian farmers were rejected.
Both the Nigerian farmers and Royal Dutch Shell were given three months to appeal.
