Suspects formally charged in Delhi gang rape case

Five men accused of the abduction, gang-rape and murder of a 23-year-old medicine student, are formally charged in court.
The victim of the December 16 assault was brutally beaten, raped and thrown out of the bus she boarded with her male friend on their way from the cinema. The incident sparked protests across the nation, which at times turned violent.
If convicted, the five suspects could face the death penalty. A sixth suspect in the case, who is a minor according to Indian law is to be tried in a juvenile court. According to India's Juvenile Justice Act, if convicted, the teenager could receive a sentence of up to three years in jail.
