Greece's main union, the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE), holds a 24-hour general strike against austerity ahead of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission to Athens. The mission's role is to assess the country's performance under an austerity program backed by international lenders.
"The brutal violation of fundamental working rights, such as the bloodsucking taxation imposed on the working population and pensioners, have exceeded every limit," GSEE said in a statement.
The communist group Pame has called a strike for the same day.
