Myanmar starts peace talks with Kachin Independence Army leaders in China

Myanmar's government starts talks with leaders of the rebel Kachin Independence Army (KIA) in China to try to rescue a stalled peace process and end the country's bloody ethnic conflict.
KIA is the only rebel group in the country that hasn't stopped fighting the country's central government. Ethnic minority rebel groups have fought the government since the end of British colonial rule in 1948.
The conflict with KIA has displaced tens of thousands of people since it broke out anew in June 2011.
