New round of 5+2 Transdniestrian settlement negotiations held
|
|
Transdniestrian settlement consultations are due to take place. The new round of talks will be held in an attempt to boost the Transdniestrian peace process.
The 5+2 format embraces Moldova and Transdniestria as the conflicting sides and Russia and Ukraine as guarantors and intermediaries. It also sees the OSCE as an intermediary and the European Union and the United States as observers.
Transdniestrian settlement is known to be a priority of the Ukrainian chairmanship of the OSCE.
Transnistria is considered by most countries as a legal part of the Republic of Moldova. Only the partially recognised states of South Ossetia and Abkhazia recognise it as a sovereign entity after it declared independence from Moldova in 1990..
