Switzerland holds referendum on initiative preventing 'rip-off salaries'

Switzerland holds a referendum on the so-called Minder Initiative, launched by businessman-turned-politician Thomas Minder in 2008.
Under the initiative, listed companies' shareholders would get the binding right to reject company remuneration plans and prevent thus excessive pay deals and bonuses of top company executives.
Both the government and the businesses oppose the initiative.
In the referendum, the Swiss will also vote on family policy and city planning.
For the first time, eleven cantons will allow
overseas voters to vote online after approval from the Federal Council.
