The cruise ship carrying 3,143 passengers and 1,086 crew went adrift off the Mexican coast, 150 miles off southern Mexico's Yucatan peninsula, after a fire broke in its engine room.
The mission of dragging the vessel to the Mexican port was given to a tugboat.
Carnival Corp. owns the cruise line Costa Cruises, which made the headlines in January 2012 when its luxury cruise ship Costa Concordia sank off the island of Giglio in Italy, killing 32 people. The removal of the wreck, which started in October 2012 is expected to be completed by summer 2013.
