Colombia and FARC resume peace talks

The Colombian government and the Marxist oriented Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) resume peace talks.
The talks, aimed at ending five decades of conflict, follow a first and second round of negotiations in November and December 2012.
Recently, both parties said that the negotiations were on the right track and that they were making progress toward an agreement on land reform. The land issue is a key topic in the peace process.
The FARC has proposed giving parts of Colombia's land to the poor, but the government said that land will not be taken from private landowners.
The Colombian President Juan Manual Santos wants to wrap up the peace talks by November. He initiated the peace process after receiving evidence that the FARC had been weakened by a decade-long US-backed offensive and was ready for peace.
