Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announces a nominee to become the chief of the Bank of Japan. Former top financial bureaucrat Toshiro Muto is considered a leading candidate for the position.

"I'd like the new BOJ governor to be someone who has the strong determination and ability to pull Japan out of deflation," Abe told parliament. 


"I'd like to reflect the government's determination (of beating deflation) through the nomination, which is likely to be made soon," he added.
