Hearing held in Berlusconi sex trial ahead of final arguments session

A hearing in the sex trial of Italy's former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi is held a week after the country's national elections.
The trial was postponed until after the election as the former PM requested a delay to enable him to campaign for office.
He is charged with paying Karima El Mahroug for sex during a lavish party that took place in one of his villas. At the time, El Mahroug was under 18 years old, the minimum legal age for prostitution in Italy.

Berlusconi was able to run in the elections after a Milan judge ruled that political campaigning is legitimate whilst awaiting trial on charges of paying for sex with minor.
The last hearing in the trial is scheduled for later this month. Berlusconi also awaits a verdict in an appeal case against his conviction of tax fraud.
