NZ introduces laws for plain tobacco packaging
|
|
The New Zealand government is due to introduce new laws that restrict the packaging for tobacco products.
The new laws strip all branding from packages in the hope of minimizing the appeal of smoking and better publicizing the health risks connected to smoking.
Similar efforts in Australia were met with legal challenges from tobacco companies. Thus, the New Zealand government is awaiting the outcome of those legal battles in Australia before enforcing their own restrictions.
New Zealand is also set to increase tobacco taxes by 40 percent.
