German government draws up legislation for strengthened same-sex adoption rights
The German government is due to draw up legislation to enshrine the right of same-sex couples to share in the adoption of a partner's stepchild or previously adopted child.
The ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court allows same-sex couples to adopt the same child on an individual basis, although they still cannot adopt a child together as a couple.
Since 2001 Germany allows same-sex couples to register in a civil partnership.
