Queen considers royal charter proposal to regulate press

The Lord President of the Privy Council, Nick Clegg, is set to present the cross-party royal charter proposal backed by the government to the Queen for approval.
The review was postponed to allow more time for consultation after ministers voiced their concern over possible legal challenge to the proposal.
The newspaper industry have submitted different proposals for a system of self-regulation backed by royal charter to the Privy Council Office.
The discussion surrounding the regulation of the press followed the exposure of the phone-hacking scandal. The Leveson inquiry, which was set as a result, made several recommendation to assist the government to prevent ethical issues recurring in the future.
