The Carnegie Medal rewards the writer of an outstanding book for children with a golden medal and £500 worth of books to donate to a library.
The medal was established in 1936 to in memory of the great Scottish-born philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919) who established some 2,800 libraries across the whole English speaking world.
The medal is awarded by CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. On the same day, CILIP presents Kate Greenaway Medal for illustration.
