NATO holds its 25th summit. Its main objectives are to evaluate the past achievements and to decide on the strategic direction of Alliance policies. 


The Heads of Sates and Government of the 28 NATO member countries will focus on three main themes. 


The first one is NATO's commitment to support Afghanistan after 2014, when the Afghan forces will be fully responsible for their country's security.


The second theme to be discussed is NATO's responsibility to ensure that it attains efficient means to defend its population and territory. 


The third main theme concerns strengthening NATO's network of partners across the globe. 


The NATO summits are important milestones in the Alliance’s decision-making process on the highest level. 


The 25th NATO Summit follows the 38th G8 Summit also hosted by the US.
