The Collier Trophy is an annual aviation award presented to those who have made "the greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America.
Particular focus is given in respect to improving the performance, efficiency, and safety of air or space vehicles, the value of which has been thoroughly demonstrated by actual use during the preceding year."
First awarded by Robert J. Collier in 1911 to Glenn Curtiss for successful development of the 'hydro-aeroplane', it is now known to be administered by the U.S. National Aeronautics Association (NAA).
Other winners of the award include Orville Wright for the development of the automatic stabilizer, Grover Loening for the development of the Loening flight yacht and Chuck Yaeger for being the first person to break the sound barrier with his Bell X-1 module aircraft.
