The Benjamin Franklin Award is presented to one individual annually for Open Access in the Life Sciences.
Presented by the Bioinformatics Organization, particular attention is given to those with outstanding achievement in bioethics who in his or her practice, promoted free and open access to the materials and methods used in the life sciences.
Past winners of the prize include Michael B. Eisen (2002), Jim Kent (2003), Lincoln D. Stein (2004) and more recently Jonathon Eisen (2011).
