Mother's Day celebrates and honors motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in society. It is believed to complement Father's Day; honoring fathers.
Although celebrated on various days in different parts of the world, it is most commonly hosted in March, April, or May.
Celebrations of mothers and motherhood occur throughout the world with many of these tracing their origin back to ancient festivals such as the Greek cult to Cybele, the Roman festival of Hilaria or the Christian Mothering Sunday celebration.
