King's Day

King's Day is the most important secular national holiday in the Netherlands. It is celebrated on the birthday of Dutch King Willem-Alexander of Orange.
When 27 April falls on a Sunday, celebrations take place on Saturday 26.

The King and his family visit one or two cities where special activities take place.

The holiday is also celebrated in the Antilles and on Aruba where, like in the Netherlands, all villages and towns are decorated, not using red, white and blue, but orange, the Royal family's royal color.

Originally,Queen's Daywas celebrated on the birthday of Queen Juliana. Despite the fact Queen Beatrix assumed the throne in1980, the day was still celebrated on Juliana's birthday since better weather was expected as the Queen Beatrix's birthday falls on 31 January.
