Bosnia-Herzegovina celebrates Independence Day in memory of the country's independence from Yugoslavia on 1 March 1992.

The day is only a public holiday in the Bosniak-Croat entity, while the authorities of the country's other entity, the Republic of Sprpska, refuse to accept the accept 1 March as a national holiday.

The Bosnian Serb leaders ignore Independence Day, because the Bosnian Serbs were against independence from Yugoslavia. The majority of them boycotted the referendum for independence of 29 February and 1 March 1992.

Because of the boycott about 99 per cent of the voters supported an independent Bosnia-Herzegovina
