The Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development began in 1992 in the city of Rio de Janeiro and is organized every 10 years.

The objective is to secure renewed political commitment for sustainable development, assess the progress to date and the remaining gaps in the implementation of the outcomes of the major summits on sustainable development and address new and emerging challenges.

The Conference focuses on two themes: A green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication and the institutional framework for sustainable development.

This conference is envisaged at the highest possible level, including Heads of State and Government or other representatives. Focused political doctrines are formed upon its completion.
