The Siege of Sarajevo encompassed the assault and eventually besiege by Serbs of Sarajevo, the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, from 5 April 1992 to 29 February 1996.

The Serbs wanted to create a new Serbian State of Republic Srpska that would include part of the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Over the course of the occupation by the Serbs, an estimated 10,000 people were killed or went missing, including over 1,500 children.

The Bosnian government officially declared an end to the siege of Sarajevo on 29 February 1996, following the signing of the Daytona Agreement on 14 December 1995, that incorporated the ceasefire between both parties.
