The Screen Actor's Guild (SAG) hold their annual Awards ceremony.

The SAG, a labour union for actors and acctresses, established the ceremony toreward outstanding performances in both film and television.Since 1995, the event forms part of Hollywood's award season. To receive a SAG award is usually a good indicator for a performer's success in the upcoming Academy Awards.

All members belonging to the union are able to vote for the winners, although every year only a specific number of members are chosen at random to decide whom to nominate for an award. Winners receive a statuette cast in solid bronze depicting a nude male figure holding both the mask of comedy and the mask of tragedy, symbols for the acting profession.

Awards are presented for outstanding male and female lead and supporting roles in both drama and comedy, for both film and television. Cast performances are also recognized, honouring drama and comedy as separate categories. In addition, every year a performer is chosen to receive the SAG lifetime achievement award.
