Demidov Prize is a national scientific prizeawarded annually to the members of theRussian Academy of Sciences. It wasestablished in 1832 by the Russian industrialist Pavel Demidov, who ran mining and smelting operations in what is now Sverdlovsk Region.


It has been one of the most prestigious and oldest scientific awards in the world, while its traditions influenced other awards of this kind including the Nobel Prize.



The prize stopped being awarded between 1917 and 1993.
