UN General Assembly session seeks to improve global finance system, tackle terrorism

The 69th session of the UN General Assembly takes place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City with focus on adopting a multilateral legal framework for sovereign debt restructuring processes to improve the global financial system.

At the beginning of the session, the Assembly will spend a minute of silent prayer or meditation before electing vice-presidents and the officers of the six main committees. Sam Kahamba Kutesa of Uganda was elected by acclamation as President of the 69th Assembly session. 

Several reports will be presented, by its Committees and by the various UN Councils, related to economic growth, sustainable development, international peace and security, the development of Africa, human rights, humanitarian assistance efforts, justice and international law, disarmament,  drug control, crime prevention, and international terrorism.
