The Kingdom of Norway elects members for its unicameral 165-seat parliament, Storting.

Norwegian members of parliament are chosen through an open-list proportional representation system for a period of four years.

This year's election is the fourth for the country's current Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, who was last defeated in the 2001 parliamentary elections.

The Red-Green Coalition, a centre-left coalition formed by the Labour Party, the Socialist Left Party and the Centre Party, aspires for re-election the third time.

The individual municipal councils can determine whether or not their municipalities will hold elections the day before the nation-wide election. - Norway's opposition widens poll lead ahead of September 9 on 2013-08-30
