van Rompuy and Barroso attend EU-South Africa summit

President of the European Council Herman van Rompuy and the President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso are scheduled to take part in the sixth South Africa-EU Summit, held in Pretoria. 

Also in attendance is the European Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht.

The summit is taking place on Nelson Mandela's International Day, providing a chance for leaders to pay tribute to one of the greatest moral and political leaders of contemporary times. 

The EU and South Africa Summit is an opportunity to strengthen the strategic dialogue between the EU and South Africa and to discuss a number of issues, in particular global governance, climate change, trade, development issues, the Joint Africa-EU strategy, the South Africa-EU strategic partnership and peace and security in Africa. - Karel De Gucht on visit to Kenya, Namibia, Botswana and SA on 2013-07-17 - South Africa-EU Summit to enhance bilateral ties on 2013-07-17
