The Organization of Ibero-American states (OEI) holds a diplomatic conference, gathering the heads of government and state of all member nations. As of the 2013 edition, the summit is to be held every two years rather than every year, as was custom.
The organization represents a community of Spanish and Portuguse speaking nations in Europe and the Americas. The aim of building community ties between these nations that share languages, histories and cultures is to impulse their presence in the sphere of global economics and international relations.
The 2013 conference will focus on the political, economic, social and cultural role of the Latin American community in a global context and will be held in the framework of the completion of the expansion of the Panama Canal.
